Old Wives Tales plan

Image
Oldwives Tales Synopsis  "Krittika" takes a walk down memory lane to her childhood, reliving the different oldwives tales she used to hear and believe in . However, these memories only bring back the hurtful feelings from the words and comments people used towards her appearance  and intelligence while she was growing up. She ends up reliving some of these bad memories, to the point it affects her physically and mentally, we then realised we are observing her therapy session with her psychiatrist.  Three Act structure  Act 1> an introduction to our protagonist. She is seen acting out the events the voice over (her self) is describing, which is the different wives tales  she grew up hearing for example,  "if you swallow watermelon seeds, it will grow inside of you, eating fish will make you smarter, an apple a day will keep the doctors away, eating bread crust will make your hair curly" etc.  Act 2 > This act contrast with the first act as the protagonist (Kr

Over

Image
OVER Characterization we don't get to personally connect/sympathise with any characters apart from the victim who we find out that he fell from an airplane as he was hiding in the wheel. He was from Angola and we learn that the film was based on a true, tragic story of Jose Matada.  Sound The film uses a large amount of silence through out the film to reflect the tragic event but also to reflect how it shocked and left many unspeakable. The silence also adds tension and leaves time for the audience to think about what the next scene will appear to be as it is in reverse order. The film starts with a faint sound of silence in the background alongside the sounds of dogs barking, this can be used to foreshadow the tragic event in the film, but also can be used to create a sense of reality as if life has gotten back to normal.  the film isn't heavy on dialogue, however there is dialogue present, but it's represented in a more faint and in the background effect. Which represen

Slap

Image
Slap Characterisation Connor Connor is represented as a character who has been oppressed by society's stereotype or categorisation.   He is represented as someone who has found himself, but isn't able to be his true self because of the oppressed way that society sees toxic masculinity.  His character is seen to break the "gender norms" of what people categorise "gender" to be like, but gets punished and discriminated against because of it.  Archie  Archie is represented as a character who identifies as LGBTQ+. His character reflects a glimpse of reality of what people who identify as LGBTQ+ have to face in society as he gets beaten up. His character development leads the audience on a rollercoaster ride, not knowing how to feel towards him by the end. Connor's dad  He is represented of what society see "masculinity" as. from his interactions with Connor, we gain a feeling of the dad trying to endorse and expects Connor to be the standard masc

Echo

Image
ECHO Representation  Caroline  she is represented at the start as a school girl who's dad has been in a bike accident, portraying her as a character the audience sympathies with at first. However, we find out later that she is lying, even though this causes some miss trust between the audience and the character, her character is still reflected as a character  that the audience feel bad for, as she is stuck in a loop because of  her past trauma. Her character development is very rapid and the feelings towards her character shifts  very fast. Her faking the accident puts her in the spot light and allows her to gain sympathy from others, which is contrast by how she is treated by her family. Her character reflects the impact that trauma has on a person, which is why her character is seen to be sympathised with by the audience.     Caroline's brother (Ollie)  He is represented at the start as having a good relationship with his  mother, which builds the question for the audience

Idea Generation

Image
This image reminded me of a Thai urban legend or "saying" that I got told by adults all the time when I was younger. The saying was "Do not point at a rainbow or your finger will fall off'' ( why? ) as it is seen as unholy and disrespectful towards spirits. Which has influence generations of Thai children. which is a similar concept for my short film, as my short film starting point is inspired by old sayings, for example like  'don't swallow the seeds of a fruit or it will grow inside of you', 'eating bread crusts will make your hair curly' or even another Thai saying that eating fish will make you smarter (all related to food as I want to link to eating disorder/ other mental health issues). A saying that nearly every child has heard at least once, and sayings that every child believed at least one. I will  contrast these sayings with what I HEAR from adults now, or what they have said to me  as I grow up, that have stayed, or a more suita

Tight jeans

Image
Tight jeans representation  protagonist group The three characters. we do not learn their names or much about the characters themselves. however, the film represents the characters personality through the vivid colours that they are wearing, and through good light, which can be seen to break the stereotype of minorities as minorities are usually portrayed in a negative and violent light in the media. However, in this film, they are presented to have a deep and touching conversation about race, which is not shown enough through the media. By using an all black protagonist cast and allowing them to use their voice to express their views on topics like race and culture, gives an important representation and message to black people and other minority groups who have been suppressed about voicing their perspective and problems . By giving representation to minorities, who have yet to have a large platform and portrayal  in the film industry and the media, reflects how important representa

The Fly

Image
The Fly  Representation  Get away driver not presented as a stereotyped "get away driver" as he is presented as anxious and easily agitated, which contrast the stereotyped get away driver as they are usually portrayed as calm, focused and well observed of their surroundings. However, getaway drivers are often presented through males in the media.  Robbers   we are presented with them visually at the end, which allows the audience to see that one of  them has been shot and they all have blood on their clothing, which makes them not capable of running at the end. they do have the  stereotypical look of a robber, as they were all wearing the same outfit with masks on, alongside the weapons (guns) and the bag that looks filled.    Fly drives the get away driver mad, could use to represent the drivers anxiety that builds up with time. sound  started out  with only background noise which wasn't loud. This can reflect his anxiety of waiting and the effect it has on the get awa
