Old Wives Tales plan

Oldwives Tales

Synopsis

"Krittika" takes a walk down memory lane to her childhood, reliving the different oldwives tales she used to hear and believe in . However, these memories only bring back the hurtful feelings from the words and comments people used towards her appearance  and intelligence while she was growing up. She ends up reliving some of these bad memories, to the point it affects her physically and mentally, we then realised we are observing her therapy session with her psychiatrist.

Three Act structure

Act 1> an introduction to our protagonist. She is seen acting out the events the voice over (her self) is describing, which is the different wives tales  she grew up hearing for example,  "if you swallow watermelon seeds, it will grow inside of you, eating fish will make you smarter, an apple a day will keep the doctors away, eating bread crust will make your hair curly" etc.

Act 2 > This act contrast with the first act as the protagonist (Krittka) voice over reflects and gives context to the audience to how the oldwives tales has been remembered through everyone's childhood, which she compares to how all the negative words and sayings have also and stayed with her to the present, and has impacted her negatively (alongside images of the food in the previous act being thrown around/ destroyed, which reflects what the words have done to her)
she then continues to describe the impacting events that has happened to her, for example a scene where she straightens her hair as the "beauty standards" have been imbedded into her. the contrast of the two acts is also presented in the conflicting tone of colours(warm-cold)

Act3> resolution-ends with the scene revealing that she is speaking with her therapist (an over the shoulder shot of the therapist, so we can see what he is writing, Krittika has an apple in her hand, when she says see you next week, she is seen biting an apple, making the audience actively thinking about has she gotten better? or does she still believes that an apple a day will keep the doctors away?

Summary

A short film reflecting the impact words and saying can have on people. I will be focusing on the topic of  how harmful words and comments that the protagonist has suffered through growing up, which has  caused her to suffer later on with  her mental health . I will be expressing this through using old wives tales  that adults used to say to children when we were younger such as don't swallow the seeds of a fruit or it will grow in your stomach etc and contrast it with the things adult say to us now such as comments on weight, intelligence etc.

Moral

The moral of this film is that negative words can have long lasting results, affecting individuals for decades. Especially negative words towards children as it imbeds in the young persons mind,  forbidding them to unleash themselves  from the word
